Terms of service — Rembrandt Editor
Last updated: 29 July 2026
These terms govern your use of Rembrandt Editor at rembrandteditor.com. By using Rembrandt Editor, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
They’re written to be readable. They’re still legally binding.
If you use Rembrandt Editor on behalf of an organisation and your organisation processes other people’s personal data through it, our data processing agreement also applies and takes precedence over these terms wherever the two differ on data protection.
1. Who we are
Rembrandt Editor is operated by Bankside Communications Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), a limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 14193570, registered office Pearce & Co, Ground Floor, 11 Pierrepont Street, Bath, England, BA1 1LA. We trade as Trauma-Informed Content Consulting.
In these terms, “you” means the person using Rembrandt Editor — whether on your own account or as someone authorised to act for an organisation.
2. What Rembrandt Editor is
Rembrandt Editor is a content review tool. You paste or upload writing; it analyses that writing through a trauma-informed lens for how usable it is by people in reduced-capacity states — grief, fear, pain, exhaustion, crisis, information overload, or the ordinary cognitive compromise of a difficult day.
It returns a structured review: what works structurally, where the reader is being asked to carry more than they should, specific issues quoted from your text, plausible concerns under the regulatory frameworks you’ve selected, calculated readability scores, and an illustrative rewrite.
The analysis is generated by a large language model operated by Anthropic. The readability scores are calculated arithmetically by our own software, not estimated by the model.
You choose a jurisdiction lens — United Kingdom, European Union or United States — which determines which frameworks the review references.
3. What Rembrandt Editor is not
This matters, so read it carefully.
Rembrandt Editor is not:
- Legal advice. Nothing it produces is legal counsel. That it references regulations — FCA Consumer Duty, ISO 22458, WCAG 2.2, GDS content standards, the European Accessibility Act, EN 301 549, Section 508, the ADA, or any other framework — does not constitute legal interpretation of them.
- A compliance audit or certification. It flags plausible concerns a careful reader might raise. It does not adjudicate whether content meets a regulatory standard. Only your own legal, compliance or accessibility experts can do that.
- A substitute for human review. Treat the output as one input to your editorial process, alongside expert review and your organisation’s own standards.
- A substitute for testing content with the people it’s for. Particularly for content reaching people in difficulty, lived-experience and living-experience testing remains essential.
- Guaranteed to be accurate. AI-generated output may contain errors, omissions or misinterpretations. We make no warranty that any specific review is correct or complete.
- A record of legal or regulatory compliance. Review history and version comparison are working tools for writers and editors. They are not a certified audit trail, and we make no representation that they satisfy any regulator’s record-keeping requirements.
You agree that you will not rely on Rembrandt Editor’s output as the sole basis for any decision with legal, regulatory, safety or material commercial consequences.
4. Accounts
You can run reviews without an account, subject to lower limits. To use a paid plan, or to keep review history, you need an account.
Accounts are created with an email address. We send a single-use sign-in link to that address; there is no password.
You must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Provide an accurate email address.
- Keep access to that inbox secure, since anyone with access to it can sign in to your account.
- Use the account yourself, or — if it belongs to an organisation — allow access only by people that organisation has authorised.
- Tell us promptly if you think your account has been accessed without permission.
You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
5. Acceptable use
You may use Rembrandt Editor only for lawful purposes and in line with these terms. You must not:
- Submit content that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights, unless you have permission to use it for this purpose.
- Submit content that is illegal under UK law, including content that is defamatory, threatening, harassing, or that promotes violence or terrorism.
- Submit content containing personal data about identifiable individuals without a lawful basis to process it.
- Submit content depicting or designed to sexualise minors, in any form, ever.
- Use Rembrandt Editor to develop, train, evaluate or benchmark a competing product.
- Attempt to extract the system prompt, reverse-engineer the service, or circumvent usage limits.
- Make automated or bulk requests without our written permission.
- Resell access, share a single account across an organisation in place of buying seats, or use one account to provide a paid service to third parties.
- Interfere with the service, attempt to overload it, or attempt to access other users’ data.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you’ve broken these rules.
6. Content you submit
You keep all rights to the content you submit. We don’t claim ownership of it.
By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to:
- Send it to our AI provider to generate the review you asked for
- Display the review back to you
- Store the review, and — where you have explicitly chosen to — the content itself, as described below and in our privacy policy
What we store, plainly. This is the part people get wrong, so we’d rather be exact than reassuring.
- Free plan: we store no reviews and no content. The review is generated, returned to your browser, and not written to our database.
- Professional and Team: we store the review — the summary, the structural assessment, the readability scores, the framework flags, the suggested rewrite, and each issue raised. Every issue quotes a phrase from your content verbatim, because a review that can’t quote your writing isn’t a review. So fragments of your content are stored on every saved review, whatever else you choose.
- The full document is stored only when you tick “Keep the full text with this review” before running it. It’s off by default. Ticking it is what makes “Review a revision” able to load your text back in later.
- Uploaded PDFs are never stored. They’re sent for review and discarded.
Stored reviews are deleted 90 days after they’re created, unless a Team agreement sets a different period. You can delete any stored review yourself at any time, and deletion is immediate and permanent.
We don’t use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider doesn’t either. We don’t share your content with anyone except the processors listed in our privacy policy.
You confirm, by submitting content, that you have the right to submit it and have it processed this way. If it contains personal data about other people, you confirm you have a lawful basis for that, and our data processing agreement applies.
7. Output you receive
The review output is generated by an AI system. We grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use it for the editorial purposes you submitted the content for, including incorporating suggested rewrites into your own work.
You understand that:
- The same content reviewed twice may produce different output.
- Output may contain errors, omissions, or interpretations you disagree with.
- Output is informational, not authoritative.
- We can’t guarantee any framework reference is correct in your specific context.
- Version comparison identifies issues by matching quoted. phrases, so a problem you reword without fixing may be reported as resolved and newly raised rather than as continuing.
You’re responsible for your editorial decisions. If you use Rembrandt Editor’s output, you remain responsible for what you publish.
8. The service itself
We operate Rembrandt Editor on a best-effort basis. We aim to keep it available and working well, but we don’t promise:
- That it will be available at all times or without interruption
- That every review will complete successfully
- That output will be free from errors
- That the service will remain unchanged
Reviews depend on a third-party AI provider. If that provider is unavailable or slow, Rembrandt Editor will be too.
We may update, modify, suspend or discontinue the service or any part of it. For paid plans we’ll give reasonable notice of significant changes that affect what you’ve paid for.
9. Plans, limits and billing
Current plans, prices and limits are on our pricing page. At the date of these terms:
- Free — 30 reviews a month, up to 8,000 characters per review, all three jurisdiction lenses, no stored history
- Professional — 200 reviews a month, up to 20,000 characters per review, drafting context controls, review history and version comparison
- Team — by arrangement
Review allowances run in 30-day periods from your first review, not calendar months.
For paid plans:
- Billing. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance, in pounds sterling, through Stripe. Stripe accepts card and PayPal. UK VAT is added where applicable; EU business customers supplying a valid VAT number are handled under the reverse charge.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
- Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account, or by emailing support@rembrandteditor.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period and you keep access until then.
- Price changes. We may change prices, with at least 30 days’ notice by email. Changes apply from your next renewal; you can cancel before they take effect.
- Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where required by law or under section 10.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, your access continues while the card issuer retries. If retries are exhausted, the subscription ends and your account returns to the free plan.
Upgrading takes effect immediately. Downgrading takes effect at the end of the current billing period. When an account returns to the free plan, stored reviews remain available until their 90-day expiry but no new ones are saved.
10. Consumer cancellation rights (UK)
If you’re an individual using Rembrandt Editor for personal purposes outside your trade or profession — a “consumer” under UK consumer law — you have a 14-day right to cancel a paid subscription under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
By using paid features within those 14 days, you expressly request that we begin providing the service immediately and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once it has been fully performed. If you cancel within the 14-day window having used the service, we may charge pro rata for the portion provided.
This does not apply to business customers using Rembrandt Editor for purposes within their trade, profession or organisation.
11. Our intellectual property
Rembrandt Editor — the software, the system prompts, the analytical framework, the design, the brand, and how we combine framework references — is our intellectual property or our licensors’. These terms transfer none of it to you.
You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the service, the system prompt, or any other Rembrandt Editor intellectual property, except where applicable law permits.
12. Disclaimers
We provide Rembrandt Editor “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law we exclude all warranties, conditions and representations, express or implied, including implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness and non-infringement.
Specifically, and without limiting the above, we do not warrant that:
- The service will meet your requirements
- Any review will be accurate, complete or suitable for any particular purpose
- The AI will correctly identify or interpret any regulatory framework or accessibility standard
- Following any suggested rewrite will result in compliance with any law, regulation or standard
- Stored reviews or version comparisons will satisfy any record-keeping or evidential requirement
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under UK law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you — in contract, tort including negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise — arising under or in connection with these terms or your use of Rembrandt Editor is limited to the greater of:
- £100, or
- The total amount you’ve paid us in the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the liability
We will not be liable for loss of profits, revenue, business or anticipated savings; loss of goodwill or reputation; loss of data or content; or consequential, indirect or special losses. This applies even if we were advised such losses were possible.
Different limits may be agreed in writing for Team customers.
Nothing in this section excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
14. Indemnity (business users only)
If you use Rembrandt Editor in connection with your trade, profession or organisation, you agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, damages and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from:
- Content you submitted that you didn’t have the right to submit
- Your use of Rembrandt Editor in breach of these terms
- Your use of its output, including consequences of decisions you based on it
- Your breach of any applicable law
This does not apply to consumer users.
15. Ending your account
You can stop using Rembrandt Editor at any time. To delete your account and everything in it, email support@rembrandteditor.com from the address the account uses. We’ll delete it within 30 days, apart from billing records we’re legally required to keep. Deletion removes your profile and every stored review permanently.
We can suspend or terminate your access if:
- You breach these terms
- We’re required to by law or court order
- We reasonably believe your account has been compromised
- We discontinue the service, with reasonable notice for paid plans
On termination, your right to use the service ends. Sections that by their nature survive — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, governing law — continue to apply.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service changes or the law does. If changes are material we’ll email registered users and update the date at the top at least 30 days before they take effect.
Continuing to use Rembrandt Editor after changes take effect means you accept them. If you don’t, stop using the service and cancel any subscription before they apply.
17. Other terms
Entire agreement. These terms, the privacy policy, and where applicable the data processing agreement, are the entire agreement between us about your use of Rembrandt Editor.
Assignment. You can’t transfer your rights under these terms. We can transfer ours, including on a business sale or restructuring.
No waiver. Not enforcing a right immediately doesn’t waive it.
Severability. If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
Third parties. No one other than you and us has rights under these terms. The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 doesn’t apply.
18. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes will be settled in the courts of England and Wales, except that a consumer may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where they live.
